Someone is about to make a mistake you already made

Why mentor with ICR

You are not volunteering into a void — here is what you get back.

Earn CPD credit

Mentoring is a recognised CPD route in the ICR framework, alongside training, speaking and research. The hours you give count toward maintaining your certification.

Sharpen your own thinking

Explaining why you do something is the fastest way to find out whether you still believe it. Mentors consistently report learning as much as they teach.

Build your standing

A public mentor profile, visible to the ICR membership, with the credentials you hold and the people you have actually helped.

Keep the profession going

Facility management is losing its most experienced people faster than it is replacing them. What you know should not retire when you do.

How it works

Four steps. The only one that is not immediate is our review.

Build your profile

Your headline, the areas you can help with, the credentials you hold, and how much time you have. Ten minutes.

ICR reviews it

A person reads every application. Mentoring carries the association’s name to someone early in their career, so nothing is auto-approved. Usually a couple of days.

You get listed

Your profile joins the directory. Members search by expertise, certification and city, and we rank the fit — including whether you already hold the credential they are working toward.

A mentee reaches out

You read their goals and their message, then accept or decline. You set how many people you take at once, and you can pause any time.

Questions

Still unsure? Ask us before you apply — we would rather answer than have you guess.

Neither. Mentoring on ICR is free for both sides — it is a membership benefit, not a marketplace. You are giving your time, and what you get back is CPD credit, visibility in the directory and the professional standing that comes with it.

You choose. Most mentors meet a mentee once a fortnight or once a month for an hour, and set their capacity to two or three people at a time. You can lower your capacity, pause your profile, or step back from a mentorship whenever you need to.

We look for real depth in the areas you have listed, a headline and description that would help a mentee decide, and enough experience to be genuinely ahead of the people you would mentor. If we cannot approve a profile, we say why in writing and you can resubmit.

ICR members across corporate real estate and facility management — students and graduates, people two or three years in who are trying to make a step up, and mid-career professionals moving between specialisms. You see their goals and their message before you decide.

Members can browse and ask you directly. We also rank the fit on six things: how well your expertise covers what they need, the gap between your experience and theirs, whether you hold the certification they are working toward, your available capacity, location and language, and industry sector.

Yes. Notes and the relationship timeline are shared between the two of you and are not readable by ICR staff. Administrators can see that a mentorship exists and its status — never what is said inside it.

At any point. Pause your profile to stop new requests while keeping current mentorships, or end a mentorship early with a reason the other person sees. You can also withdraw your profile once your active mentorships have finished.

No. Certifications strengthen a profile and help you match with people pursuing the same credential, but experience is what matters. Plenty of the most useful mentors are certified by doing the job for twenty years.

Ready when you are

Ten minutes to build a profile. A couple of days for us to review it. Then someone who needs what you know can find you.
